New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday slammed Centre on inaction in drought-hit areas. The court said nine states are facing drought and the government cannot turn blind eye on this.

During the hearing, the Gujarat government said it has already implemented Food Security Act from April.

The petition of drought and government's apathy was filed by Swaraj Abhiyan seeking extra effort and free food for the poor in drought-hit states.

CNN-IBN had exposed the plight of drought-hit Bundelkhand farmers in a series of hard-hitting reports.

The reports showed how consecutive years of scanty rainfall and hailstorms which destroyed crops the lives of millions of people in the region has been severely hit. People in many areas were surviving merely on roti and salt and lakhs were migrating to other regions.
