New Delhi General Pervez Musharraf has won the last legal challenge to his presidency. The Supreme Court on Thursday threw out the fifth and final petition, terming it as unconstitutional.
Musharraf will likely take oath as a civilian president over the weekend. A hearing challenging the Emergency comes up before the court on Friday.
Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif says he will soon be back in Pakistan. He will hope to return in time to meet the November 26 deadline to file nomination papers for the upcoming elections.
Currently in forced exile in Saudia Arabia, Sharif meets with Saudi King Abdullah on Thursday.
Meanwhile, a senior leader of the ruling coalition claimed Musharraf would allow Sharif back only after the January 8 elections.
The Commonwealth Ministerial Action group on Thursday debated Pakistan's membership of its council. African members are believed to have pushed hard for the country's suspension.
Britain and Canada also reportedly toughened their stand but Sri Lanka and Malaysia opposed any action against Pakistan.
A divided ministerial action group could eventually postpone its decision.
