New Delhi: Sania Mirza and her American partner Bethanie Mattek won the $1,75,000 WTA Cincinnati Open doubles title on Sunday at Cincinnati in USA.
The top seeded Indo-American pair beat Alina Jikova of Russia and Tatiana Poutchek of Belarus in straight sets 7-6, 7-5.
This win gives Sania her second WTA doubles title this year while the 21-year-old Mattek won her first tour doubles title and the second of her career.
After her fifth doubles title of her career in Cincinnati, Sania said that she was satisfied with her performance and credited her partner for the victory.
"We played better matches this week, but we’re still happy to win. I’ve to get along with somebody off the court to play with them; Bethanie and I are a good team," she was quoted as saying by PTI.
Mattek, too, praised Sania adding that they both have a good baseline game.
"We’re a really good mixture. We’re both solid on the baseline and Sania has a good forehand, so it opens up the court. Same with our serves," Mattek said.
Sania is now ranked 35th in the latest singles rankings.
