New Delhi: Sania Mirza is through to the semi-finals of the WTA Pattaya Open.

Sania beat Italy's Mara Santangelo 6-4, 7-6 in the quarter-finals of the $17,000 tournament.

She will face Argentina's Gisela Dulko on Saturday for a place in the final. Dulko overcame Australian Nicole Pratt 6-2, 6-3 in the other quarter-final.

After the match Sania said that she was not very clear how to play against Santangelo .

"She's very difficult to play against, I don't know any player like her and I was trying to figure how she plays and her strengths and weaknesses. I had some bad serves but I got them right when I needed them," Sania said.

She admitted that she plays better when the odds are against her.

"I was twice down but I always play better when I'm losing. It seems to motivate me to play better," she said.

In the other quarter-finals, Sybille Bammer of Austria faced a tough opponent in Slovakia's Martina Sucha. After a three-hour fight, Bammer won the match 3-6, 6-3, 6-3.

She will now face fourth seed Shuai Peng in the semi-finals after the Chinese beat Israel's Tzipora Obziler 6-3, 6-2.
