CHENNAI: Following the appeal made by Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, donations have started pouring in for the relief and restoration works in districts affected by cyclone Thane.Personalities from all walks of life and representatives of various corporate houses are calling on the Chief Minister at the Secretariat and contributing to her relief fund to be used for ongoing relief works.  On Friday alone, the total contributions received stood at Rs 4.57 crore.Those who contributed to the fund on Friday included Assembly Speaker D Jayakumar (including his salary for one month and employees of the Assembly secretariat, who donated their one day’s salary of Rs 3.26 lakh).Others who donated were Sri Vijayalakshmi Trust (Rs 1.24 crore), VIT University’s Founder Chancellor G Viswanathan (Rs 1 crore), KS Raju, Group Chairman, Nagarjuna Oil Corporation Limited, Chennai (Rs 1crore), B Saravanan, Managing Director, Shiva Distilleries Limited, Coimbatore district (Rs 50 lakh), Southern Railway Mazdoor Union (`40 lakh), Actor Sivakumar and his sons Surya and Karthik (Rs 25 lakh), V Senthilnathan, secretary of AIADMK’s Youth Brigade (Rs 5 lakh), ND Venkatachalam, AIADMK MLA, Perundurai constituency (Rs 5 lakh) and Nanjil A Murugesan, AIADMK MLA, Nagercoil constituency (Rs 5 lakh).
