BANGALORE: A history-sheeter was hacked to death by unidentified assailants in the early hours of Tuesday. The incident was reported near Poornima theatre in Silver Jubilee Park police station limits. Old rivalry is suspected to be the reason for the murder.The victim M Velu, 30, was a resident of Ramanna Garden. He owned a fruit stall at the city market and reportedly was involved in many crimes.According to the police, Velu was an Ayappa devotee and was on a religious practice. He and his friends had put a tent near Poornima theatre and were performing pujas and bhajans there. On Tuesday at around 5.15 am, he came out of the tent to go home. As he was walking with his friend Ajay, about 6-7 unidentified masked assailants, attacked Velu with machetes and hacked him to death before fleeing the scene.“There was not much public movement at that time and it was still dark. It is said that the assailants were hiding in an goods auto, waiting for Velu to come out. It is suspected that old rivalry could be the reason for the murder. Velu was also into financing and we will probe whether financial reasons have led to the murder,” police added.“Velu’s brother Subramani was allegedly murdered by one, Rudra, in 2005 and his father had also met the same fate some years ago. Thus, Velu allegedly killed Rudra’s brother to avenge his brother’s killing,” the police explained.The body was sent to Bowring Hospital mortuary where a post mortem was conducted. S J Park police have registered a murder case.
