Rock it With DR!
Demonic Resurrection, one of the oldest metal bands in India, is all set to stage their first show in the state

Demonic Resurrection (DR) is a Blackened Death Metal Band from Mumbai, sounding similar to the infamous Opeth, Cradle of Filth and Cannibal Corpse. The band is all set to offer an adrenaline pumping session at the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology, Valiyamala, in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday.

Demonic Resurrection’s current line-up consists of Sahil ‘The Demonstealer’ Makhija on Vocals and rhythm guitars, Daniel Rego on lead guitars, Ashwin Shriyan on Bass, Jetesh ‘Mephisto’ Menon on keyboards and Virendra ‘Viru’ Kaith on Drums.

“We are so much excited to play in Kerala to know the audience and to play what they want. We are going to do probably 12 songs from our three albums. There will be songs from our latest album also,” says Sahil, the frontman.

DR is the only Indian band which has won the Global Metal Award at the Metal Hammer Golden Gods 2010 in London, UK. Metal Hammer is one of the most prestigious heavy metal magazines in the world and the Golden Gods are their flagship awards for metal bands across the world. The other specialty is that they were the only band to feature in the ‘Global Metal’ Documentary filmed by Sam Dunn, whose works include the famous ‘Iron Maiden: Flight 999’ and ‘Metal: A Headbangers Journey’.

Demonic Resurrection also made it to the soundtrack of Global Metal along with Lamb of God, Sepultura and In Flames. They have played at many places across the globe including the Inferno Festival at Norway in 2010 and recently at the Bloodstock festival at UK. They competed against Sepultura in the group semi-finals of “Loudwire - Extreme Metal Olympics 2012”.

Since its inception in March 2000 Demonic Resurrection has raised eyebrows. Starting out as a bunch of 17-year-olds looking to give India a taste of extreme metal, then a nearly untouched genre, the band, spearheaded by Sahil, released their first album ‘Demonstealer’ within nine months of its formation.

“We are waiting for the moment to give the metal fans an unforgettable gig. We do not know how the crowd will be. But I’m sure we will rock the city,” said Sahil Makhija.

Their other albums include ‘A darkness Descends’ (2002-2007), ‘Beyond the Darkness’ (2007-2009) and their third full length album ‘The Return to Darkness’ (2009). The band also released their first video for the ‘Unrelenting Surge of Vengeance’ that received airplay from mainstream music channels like VH1. The programme is organised in association with MAD (Make a different). For passes contact: +919446310472.
