Gandhinagar: BJP's national spokesperson MJ Akbar came down heavily on Robert Vadra, the son-in-law of Congress president Sonia Gandhi, by alleging in Gandhinagar on Thursday that he had "robbed" farmers' land to set up his companies.

Akbar was in Gandhinagar to take part in a media workshop organised by the Gujarat unit of the BJP at its party headquarters.

Addressing Gujarat BJP leaders, Akbar stressed on the need to give a reply to Congress leaders who talk about farmers' welfare.

"I do not want to take any names of people who are talking about farmers because they themselves set up companies after acquiring land from farmers. But, why we should not mention about people like Robert Vadra? They robbed farmers' land in broad daylight," Akbar alleged.

While speaking about the Land Acquisition Bill, which has been labelled "anti-farmer" by the Congress, Akbar said that the BJP needs a strategy to counter these allegations.

"When our PM Narendra Modi is trying to work for the betterment of farmers, they (Congress leaders) are trying to stop him. I believe that we (BJP) must give a fitting reply; that too with confidence. For that, we have to find out facts," Akbar told participants of the workshop.

The workshop was attended by Gujarat cabinet ministers Nitin Patel and Saurabh Patel, besides Gujarat BJP vice president I K Jadeja as well as several other BJP functionaries.

Commenting on the performance of Modi government's one year in power, Akbar claimed that his government's biggest achievement is complete "elimination" of corruption. He also challenged the Congress to find a single incident of corruption during the last one year.
