KOCHI: Even as the Corporation is all set to impose a ban on screening of moving advertisement and LED boards, the authorities in Corporation are sceptical of its enforcement. They believe that the new law is likely to remain on paper as the Corporation has to initiate action against big companies who place live digital hoardings along the road. According to town planning committee chairman K J Sohan, such a ban was framed as the ads would distract the drivers. “The Corporation has come up with a bylaw against screening movies, advertisement films and even animation movies using LED screens. Only still ads are permitted. The bylaw has been moved by the Town Planning Standing Committee. The enforcement of the law will take place soon,” Sohan said. The rays emitted from the boards are powerful enough to distract the driver. As, such screens can divert the attention of drivers, chances of accidents are high. “Even the live ads displayed over the shops would not be permitted. This will help save electricity,” Sohan said. However, the Corporation is uncertain about the effectiveness in implementing the law when it comes to LED screens of several big sharks erected near the road. “Big companies, doing business all over the country, have placed LED and live digital screens along the road. The ban must be imposed without any bias” Sohan said. The Corporation is planning to discuss the issue with the managements as the city is fast turning to be the hub of hoardings and flexboards. “We don’t think that the ban will be imposed. The companies may use political influence to disobey the Corporation rule,” officials in the Corporation said.
