Rishabh Pant Apologises to Frustrated Siraj After Wrong DRS Call That Denied India a Wicket
After Siraj finished the over, the ball tracking showed that the ball was pitching in line and was hitting the leg stump.

Mohammed Siraj was left frustrated after being denied the wicket of Zakir Hasan in just his second over of Bangladesh’s innings on Friday. The right-arm quick went all guns blazing in his opening spell, troubling the visiting top-order batter. The fifth delivery of his over hit Hasan on the pads, leaving Siraj delighted as he was confident to have trapped the Bangla batter in front. The umpire wasn’t convinced, while India skipper Rohit Sharma didn’t opt for the DRS with wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant suggesting, “Height nahi hain, nikal jayege leg-side (It’s not high but will miss leg-stump).”

But the replay and the ball-tracking left Siraj fuming.

Siraj had bowled a tad fuller on leg stump, swinging back in. Zakir Hasan looked to flick but played all around the ball and got hit on the pads. Siraj insisted on a review but Rohit Sharma felt that might be swinging down leg.

After Siraj finished the over, the ball tracking showed that the ball was pitching in line and was hitting the leg stump. While Rohit smiled sheepishly after watching the review, wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant apologized to the pacer for a wrong judgement.

Later in the morning session, Akash Deep inflicted twin blows off successive deliveries as Bangladesh were left reeling at 26/3 in reply to India’s 376 at lunch.

Jasprit Bumrah (1/10) cleaned up left-handed opener Shadman Islam (2) in the opening over, before Akash Deep dismissed Zakir Hasan (3) and Mominul Haque (0) in succession to leave them in dire straits at 22/3.

Skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto was holding fort with an unbeaten 15m, while Mushfiqur Rahim was batting at four with Bangladesh still trailing by 350 runs. Resuming on 339/6, India were bowled out for 376 in 91.2 overs with Hasan Mahmud dismissing Bumrah to complete his five-wicket haul (5/83).

Ravichandran Ashwin’s incredible knock ended on 113, adding 11 runs to his overnight total, while Ravindra Jadeja fell on 86.
