HYDERABAD: The state government got some relief on Friday with the Planning Commission granting a revised investment-clearance for Rs 9,428 crore for the ‘JCR Godavari Lift Irrigation Scheme' in the state. The original estimate as per 2004-05 rates for this project was Rs 6,016 crore.The scheme has been designed to irrigate 6.2 lakh acres of land in Telangana with a water utilisation of 50 tmc ft from river Godavari, with 38.16 tmc ft intake through lift at Gangaram in Warangal district.The massive project is being taken up in three phases under the Accelerated Irrigation Benefits Programme with the government of India bearing 75 per cent of the cost.Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy thanked the Planning Commission and the Union government for this gesture, official sources said.The revised cost of the project was cleared by the CWC in September 2010 for Rs 9,428 crore with price level of 2009-10. The Planning Commission on Friday accorded revised investment clearance for Rs 9,428 crore.
