New Delhi: This is one report that should settle the controversy surrounding the death of Maharashtra ATS Chief Hemant Karkare.
The officer – who died on November 26 during the terrorist attack in Mumbai – fell to terrorists’ bullets and died in the line of duty, says his detailed post-mortem report.
The Mumbai Crime Branch has submitted the report to the state government that also details the sequence of events leading to Karkare's death.
The report clarifies that Karkare sustained four bullet injuries all of which were fired from the weapons used by the terrorists.
Details of the report are awaited.
What's that again, Mr Antulay?
The report gives puts Minority Affairs Minister A R Antulay's story – that Karkare’s killing may have been planned – in a jeopardy.
Antulay’s statement had kicked up a political storm.
Chaos reigned in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha on Monday and Opposition BJP has demanded the Minority Affairs Minister's ouster while the Congress found itself friendless.
Both houses of Parliament were repeatedly disrupted, with BJP members storming the well of the house.
Rajya Sabha was adjourned three times with the Speaker unable to control the MPs and the story was no different in Lok Sabha. Antulay ka ant karo (put an end to Antulay) was what the BJP demanded.
The 79-year-old former Maharashtra chief minister had indicated that the Karkare's death could be linked to the Malegaon bombings he was investigating and in which members of Hindu radical groups were the main suspects.
"Superficially speaking they (terrorists) had no reason to kill Karkare. Whether he (Karkare) was a victim of terrorism or terrorism plus something I do not know," Antulay had said.
