KOCHI: Swapna David who describes herself as a ‘facilitator’ of creative endeavours recalled her one-year long ‘ethereal stint’ with MF Husain, as a production executive of his final film ‘Kaminey’. She was talking at a function held to pay tributes to M F Husain at Nanappa Art Gallery on Monday. “Husain was a phenomenal figure who was invariably in love with life.Husain according to her was ‘terribly funny’. He wanted b4u music as a backdrop whenever he worked. And being an ardent film buzz, he used to watch all Bollywood films, whether they were trash or not.When asked why he was besotted with Madhuri Dixit, Husain replied,”she is an embodiment of Indian womanhood.” “We shared similar tastes. We were fond of Indian mythology. Once I gave him a collection of ‘Purana Amar Chithra Katha’ which we both read together and enjoyed. He had thorough knowledge of Indian mythology and was largely nonchalant towards the intimidation raised against him in India. Never complain, never explain, keep on waving that was something he followed throughout his life.”Both were foodies.“We used to go to a nearby ‘chaay waalah’ who treated Husain compassionately thinking him to be a homeless loner since his coat was dotted with paint and he walked barefooted.” He preferred to call himself a painter than an artist and he used to tell her that he was ready to paint her house.Swapna believes that it was his diligence and passion towards what he did that made him energetic even at 96.Husain used to work throughout night and when Swapna woke up in the morning, he would have completed a painting.Hussain had a leaning towards Keralites for their love and respect for artists. May be that is why he agreed to work with me, she thinks. Initially the movie was named ‘Comedy.com’. Shaji N Karun had agreed to do the camera for ‘Kaminey’. Husain was working on the script when he fell ill and passed away and so they had to stop the film mid-way.Swapna currently works as the executive producer of the second part of the film, ‘Housefull’. So far she had produced films like ‘Heaven on Earth’, Housefull(2010), Cooking with Stella(2009), RA.One(2011). Swapna is a producer with Hobo Pictures Ltd and was earlier the executive producer of Red Chillies Entertainment and Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment Ltd.
