PARADIP: There seems to be no respite in the flood situation for people of Jagatsinghpur district.Water level at Daleighai embankment on Sunday stood at 62.70 feet against the red mark of 57.A 22-foot breach occurred at Ranitola of Katokota panchayat under Kujang block and at Termanpur in the morning.On Saturday evening, a 30-foot breach occurred in the embankment at Ukushai in Samantrapur panchayat under Tirtol block.The flood water entered six villages under the panchayat.The Paika and Mahanadi rivers have breached at eight places and the affected villagers in Kujang and Tirtol blocks have been marooned for the last two days.Sub-Collector Murlidhar Mallick said a total of 38,000 people of 67 villages in the district have been severely affected in the flood and relief and food materials would be provided to them for the next seven days.However, the flood-hit people of Tirtol and Kujang blocks alleged that relief materials are yet to reach them.They said there was acute scarcity of drinking water and with water flowing over roads, relief materials have not reached the villages.“Around 2,000 people are marooned.There is no food and drinking water for people and the livestock as well,” said Bibhu Prasad Senapati of Sarlapur village in Tirtol block.He added that though political leaders had promised help during their visit, nothing has been done so far.Sankheswer sarpanch Nilu Jena said relief works had been affected due to lack of boats and road networks.Assistant Engineer of Biluakhai irrigation division Kailash Chandra Samal said water level at Daleighai since Saturday has remained constant and the water is expected to recede by Sunday night.KENDRAPARA: Senior BJP leader Bijaya Mohapatra on Sunday alleged that adequate relief is yet to reach the flood-affected villagers of Kendrapara.Addressing mediapersons after a whirlwind tour of the district, he urged the State Government to expedite relief works in all the affected areas.As many as three lakh people of the district have been affected in the flood.“The preparedness of the district administration to handle a calamity like this can be gauged from the fact that there are not enough boats to reach out to the affected persons even after three days,” he said.Due to non-repair for several years, embankments have breached at Khurasia, Badakula, Podananarasinghpur, Madana and other areas.
