BHUBANESWAR: The recovery of body of a middle-aged man inside a hume pipe made the Salia Sahi slums tense on Sunday afternoon. A long trail of blood, which led to the spot where the deceased was found, initially, led the locals to believe that he was murdered. However, only after police ascertained identity of the person, gathered his personal details and conducted inquest on the body, it became increasingly clear that it may not have been a case of murder and things calmed down. At about 3 pm, locals spotted the trail of blood and traced the body inside the hume pipe located close to Dasarathi Apartments in Jayadev Vihar area. Salia Sahi, the city’s biggest slum, is a stone’s throw from the place. Since the body of the deceased - later identified as Gautam Behera - too had blood stains, locals thought he may have been attacked and killed. Nayapalli Police ascertained that there were no injury marks on his person. He was a daily wage-earner and originally belonged to Phulbani. Bhubaneswar DCP Nitinjit Singh said family members of the deceased revealed that he was suffering from TB but had not completed the medication. “While inquest report suggested no injury, he was bleeding through his mouth and nose,” the DCP said. Besides, the blood samples found along the road were tested and found to be consisting of puked substances. Some locals had also spotted him vomiting.  A case of unnatural death has been registered by Nayapalli Police. WOMAN’s BODY FOUND: Body of a 35-year-old woman was found in a flooded quarry in Patrapada area of the City. Her identity is yet to be established. Police suspect that the woman may have fallen into the quarry and drowned in the water. Investigation is on.YOUTH FOUND UNCONSCIOUS: A youth, who was allegedly kidnapped and assaulted by a hotel owner, was found in an unconscious state near a canal at Bargarh area on Sunday. Sanjay Dhal Samanta, as he was identified, was spotted by the locals who informed the local police. Samanta was rushed to hospital. Investigation revealed that Samanta was working as a cook with a hotel located at Samantarapur. A few days back, he had borrowed ` 3,000 from his employer. Then he fell sick and could not report to work for three days last week. Presuming that he had fled after taking the money, the hotel owner allegedly picked him from his house and took him to Laxmi Sagar where Samanta was assaulted and dumped in the canal. He was swept by the storm water till Bargarh where locals rescued him. After the matter came to light, locals went to Bargarh Police Station and demanded strong action against the hotel owner.
