New Delhi: Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday told Parliament that Usman Khan, the LeT gunman arrested in Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir, is a Pakistani national and the attack on the BSF convoy was clearly intended to disrupt the peace process in the state.
He also announced compensation for the jawans who died fighting the terrorists.
An NIA team is on its way to Jammu to interrogate Usman.
Pakistan, however, continues to insist that they are not aware of Usman's arrest. They want India to inform them through official channels and provide proof.
Usman is the first suspected Pakistani terrorist to be captured alive after 26/11 handler Ajmal Kasab. His initial interrogation revealed that he was targeting the Amarnath Yatra.
"The BSF was not the main target (of the Udhampur attack)," Rakesh Sharma, IG, BSF, said. "They were looking for a target and the BSF just happened to cross over during that period and they targeted the BSF. There are rifles, grenades, other weapons and whatever has been seized is in possession of the police," he said.
