The Rajasthan government's Knowledge Enhancement Program aims to send young farmers abroad to learn innovative, cost-effective agricultural and animal husbandry techniques using advanced technology

The Bhajanlal Sharma government in Rajasthan will be sending 100 young and progressive farmers from his state abroad for training. The state government has invited applications from interested farmers under this program.

Young progressive farmers can apply online on the Rajkisan Sathi portal through their nearest e-Mitra centre till September 25 for this initiative.

To know more about this program, farmers can contact the Agriculture, Horticulture and Animal Husbandry Department. Farmers applying for training must be below 55 years of age and must have a valid passport.

The Rajasthan government had announced a Knowledge Enhancement Program in this year’s Budget. Under this program, in the first phase, progressive young farmers from Rajasthan will be sent to those countries which have emerged as leaders when it comes to innovation in the field of agriculture and animal husbandry. More crops are now being produced in less space and at a low cost using high-end technology.

Out of the 100 young farmers selected in the first phase under the Knowledge Enhancement Program, 80 will be from the agriculture sector and 20 from the dairy and animal husbandry sector.

Several criteria have been set for selection under the Knowledge Enhancement Program. A farmer from the General category should have at least one hectare of land. Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and women farmers should have ownership of 0.5 hectare of agricultural land.

The applicant should have been engaged in farming for the last 10 years. The farmer should also be acquainted with high agricultural technology such as protected cultivation, micro irrigation, mulching, solar energy pumps, drones, fertigation, automation, using farm ponds and diggis.

A selection criterion has also been fixed for the 20 young milk producers or animal breeders who will be sent abroad. The young milk producer or animal breeder selected from the dairy sector should actually own a dairy of at least 20 cows or buffaloes, or 10 camels, or 50 sheep or goats. He should be associated with the dairy or animal husbandry profession for the last 10 years. He should be using high-end animal husbandry or dairy technology in his profession.

Moreover, the applicant should have been selected for the district or state level award in the dairy sector and should be recognized as a progressive animal keeper in his locality.
