Khalistan Liberation Force (KLF) chief Harminder Singh Mintoo - after escaping from Punjab’s Nabha Jail - took a bus from Kaithal and reached Kurukshetra in Haryana, sources in the police department said.
Sources said, Mintoo along with another fugitive took a bus to dodge the police who were primarily checking private cars at all the major intersections and bordering areas of Punjab.
“He reached Kurukshetra in 20 minutes and from there he took another bus to Panipat and then a bus to New Delhi. We got to know that he booked a ticket to Panvel in Maharashtra and planning to take shelter in Goa," police sources said. Also Read: Khalistan Liberation Force Chief Harminder Singh Mintoo Arrested; NSA Praises Police
After staying for few days in Goa, he was planning to flee abroad. However, his call conversation helped the SIT to arrest him from Delhi on Monday.
Addressing a press conference Arvind Deep, Special CP (Special Cell), said, “The jailbreak was planned by Gurpreet Singh Sekhon and he helped Mintoo and Kashmira Singh (another KLF terrorist) to escape."
"Mintoo was not a part of “planned escape" but he was helped by other gangsters to flee", he said.
On Sunday morning, 10 armed men raided the Jail and managed to free Mintoo and six others.
Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal suspended top jail officials and formed a SIT to probe the jailbreak.
Twenty-four hours after the manhunt launched by the Special Cell of Delhi police, Mintoo was arrested on Monday near Delhi-Haryana border.
He was produced in Patiala House Court in the evening by the Delhi Police and sent to 14 days judicial custody.
