BANGALORE: Urging organisations and community members working on the issue of public distribution system (PDS) to take steps to correct the system, Special Investigator, Lokayukta on Public Distribution System Dr Balasubramaniam said that a public interest litigation has to be filed to ensure that government follows the Supreme Court order on the Right to Food case.He was speaking at a public hearing session on PDS at a slum settlement organized by Daksha Samuha, a community based organization of women living in slum settlements, facilitated by Centre for Advocacy and Research (CFAR) on Wednesday."Quite often there is political interference in distribution of ration cards, which explains the ineligible getting BPL cards and the eligible being excluded. The nonissuance of ration cards, wrongly spelt names and the exclusion of family members are the challenges that plague the PDS system across the State," he observed. He also asked the officials of the Department of Food and Civil Supplies to submit a report in 15 days to Lokayukta on the steps taken by it, with regard to complaints that were put forth at the hearing.
