THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: While the controversy over the attack on a school teacher at Valakom in Kollam district rages, the Jail Department has initiated a departmental inquiry into the telephonic conversation of jailed former minister R Balakrishna Pillai from his hospital bed with the reporter of a news channel.The call list of the mobile phone with which he had communicated with the channel reporter will be scanned, according to highly placed sources in the department.If found guilty of violation of ban on use of prohibited substances, Pillai is bound to attract additional imprisonment under Section 42 of the Prisons Act.Jail Officer P A Varghese is conducting the probe, which has been ordered by the Jail ADGP.Meanwhile, the magistrate could not take the statement of R Krishnakumar, the brutally tortured teacher lying in a serious condition at the MCH here, on Friday also.Doctors treating him maintained that he had not regained his consciousness fully.Opposition Demands CBI ProbeThe Opposition has demanded a CBI inquiry into the inhuman attack on Krishnakumar.Opposition Leader V S Achuthanandan, addressing the Assembly on Friday, said that the UDF Govt was protecting the real perpetrators of the vicious crime.Achuthanandan alleged that police officers close to Balakrishna Pillai were appointed as the investigation officers.Truth, he said, would come out only if an independent agency such as the CBI was entrusted with the case.Chandy said that the state government was totally committed to the job of nabbing the attackers
