SHIMOGA: “Authority and power are not permanent. I am reconsidering continuing in politics in the present scenario. One should exit if there is no respect or honour in their field,” said former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa at the inaugural function of Chaitanya convention of Veerashaiva Lingayat Panchamasali in Shimoga on Sunday.Reacting to the statement made by some leaders terming him mentally instable, he said he is exercising restraint and not reacting in the way he would have.“I worked for the development of the state in toto on the basis of social justice.I never favoured any particular caste or community during my tenure,” he added.Sharing his experiences as CM, he said he sailed through very difficult times amidst all odds to work for the people’s welfare.He termed Panchamasali a significant wing of the Lingayat community that contributed great personalities like Kittur Chennamma, Belavadi Mallamma, litterateurs like Chennaveera Kanavi and G S Shivarudrappa.He clarified that he was in Varanasi for darshan of Lord Vishwanath when the Panchamasali convention was held in Gokak.Seer Mallikarjuna Murugharajendra, MP B Y Raghavendra, MLA Belur Gopalakrishna, Bhavi Bettappa, president Basavaraj Dindur, B S Umapathi, CMC president S N Channabasappa and others were present.‘Nuke energy for progress’MYSORE: Taking exception to the opposition to the Koodankulam Nuclear Power Plant, AEC member Dr M R Srinivasan said that nuclear energy is vital for India’s development.After inaugurating a seminar on ‘Nuclear Energy-Environment and Safety,’ he said that nuclear energy is important to overcome poverty.The seminar was organised jointly by the Indian Nuclear Society and Department of Studies in Physics, University of Mysore, here on Saturday.Stating that it is possible to have development without harming the environment, he said that without understanding the reality, the agitators are opposing the Kudankulam project.
