VISAKHAPATNAM: The mystery over the death of 10-year-old girl, Thedu Lakshmi, at Buchirajupalem here continues.A skull and some bones, alleged to be of the girl who had gone missing a month ago, were found along with the girl’s books, school uniform and lunch-box near a burial ground in the same area on Monday.A team of medical officers of King George Hospital went to the burial ground on Tuesday for post mortem.Locals and women activists staged a protest in front of the Gopalapatnam police station and the Sri Shanti Niketan School, alleging negligence on the part of the police and the school management.The girl’s father, T Narayana Rao, a railway employee, too a made the same charge.Sri Shanti Niketan School teacher S Rajyalakshmi recalled that Lakshmi was very sensitive and sincere though mediocre at studies.She was punctual and was absent just for two days between June 15 and October 1.After the Dasara vacation (October 1 to 10), Lakshmi attend the classes till October 13 and went missing on October 14.Some locals said they had seen three men follow the girl daily in the evenings.They were not seen in the past few weeks, giving rise to fears over the girl’s safety.Residents of Buchirajupalem criticised the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation for failing to develop unused burial ground as a park and allowing it become a haven for anti-social elements.They booed Visakha West MLA M Vijayaprasad who called on girl’s parents to convey condolences.ACP (North) V Raviprakash told reporters they were investigating case from different angles and it was premature to come to a conclusion before the post mortem that the skull and the bones were those of Lakshmi.
