New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh police on Friday night released the sketch of a suspect behind the bomb blast by terrorists in the civil court in Faizabad, which left four persons dead.
The sketch was drawn on the basis of statements of those present inside the court premises at the time of the blast including lawyers, IGP (Lucknow Zone) A K Jain said.
Police in Lucknow has also launched a manhunt for Shamim, a friend of Harkat-ul-Jehadi Islamia (HuJI) militant Waliullah who was arrested in connection with Sankatmochan temple blast in Varanasi in 2006, after he was identified by a cycle shop owner as one of the customers who purchased new cycle in the state Capital.
The sketch of Shamim was also being released to facilitate his apprehension.
Six bombs — three in Varansi, two in Faizabad and one in Lucknow — went off within a span of 15 minutes in the crowded court complexes between 1310 hrs, IST and 1325 hrs, IST. Some of bombs are believed to have been planted on cycles.
In Faizabad, adjoining to the holy town of Ayodhya, five people were confirmed dead and 25 others were injured when two bombs packed in bags exploded in two lawyers' chambers.
All the three court premises in Lucknow, Faizabad and Varanasi had seen incidents of manhandling of militants or anti-Ram temple activists by lawyers. Last week lawyers had roughed up three JeM militants and the bar association had refused to take up their cases.
The Faizabad court premises were witness to an altercation between activists of a Babri Masjid organisation and lawyers. The local bar association had banned its advocates from taking up their case.
The UP Government has termed these blasts as a planned terror attack. Police later recovered two live bombs from the blast sites in Faizabad and Lucknow. National Security Guards have been dispatched to the blast site to carry out investigations.
