Police rejects terror angle in Jama Masjid attack
A tourist bus was fired upon on Sunday morning by two unidentified men on a motorbike near the Jama Masjid in Delhi.

New Delhi: Delhi Police have rejected an e-mail claim by terrorist group Indian Mujahideen (IM) owning up the Sunday’s firing incident near the historic Jama Masjid.

Indian Mujahideen has claimed responsibility for the firing attack in an e-mail sent to news organisations and threatened terror strikes during the Commonwealth Games. But Delhi Police say they do not see the hand of the Indian Mujahideen in the attack.

A tourist bus was fired upon on Sunday morning by two unidentified men on a motorbike near the Jama Masjid. The duo fired several rounds on the tourist vehicle near Jama Masjid's Gate 3. Two Taiwanese nationals were seriously injured in the firing, but they are now out of danger. The incident took place at about 11am on Sunday morning. The men on the motorbike managed to escape.

Police recovered four cartridges of bullets and have been claiming that the two men approximately fired seven rounds of bullets.

Union Home Ministry is also closely monitoring the investigations into the shooting incident and has sought a report from the Delhi Police. Home Minister P Chidambaram visited the hospital to find out more about the tourists injured.

A red alert has been sounded across the national capital after the incident. Police have detained one person for questioning in connection with the case.

The two injured -- Cesewein (27) and Cinglo (28) -- were rushed to the nearby government Lok Nayak Jaiprakash Narayan Hospital, a senior police official said. Cesewein had a miraculous escape as the bullet grazed his head while Cinglo was hit in his right abdomen.
