New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has promised stern action against the guilty in the Commonwealth Games scam case. Singh on Monday directed Cabinet Secretary KM Chandrasekhar to provide a follow up report in a week on the findings of the VK Shunglu Committee that investigated Commonwealth Games scam cases.
Taking a serious view of the findings by the Shunglu Committee, the Prime Minister sent the report to the Cabinet Secretary for urgent examination and directed him to submit a report within a week.
The Shunglu Committee had submitted its first report on Monday. The report indicts former Prasar Bharati CEO BS Lalli and recommends criminal proceedings against him for causing a loss of Rs 135 crore to the exchequer.
Lalli, who has been suspended from the post of Prasar Bharti CEO, by the government, is going to face more problems after the Shunglu Committee report.
He has been accused of favouring private firms in awarding broadcast contracts during the Commonwealth Games. One of the companies that got the contracts is SIS Live, which was given the contract by Prasar Bharti for a sum of Rs 246 crore.
Shunglu Committee found that SIS Live got the work done by a different company for a sum of just Rs 111 crore.
