CHENNAI: With a view to bring together products, services and service providers that reach out to senior citizens, a one-of-its-kind exhibition for the experienced, called Retirement India Expo 2011 will unfurl in the city on September 10.India has a whopping 97 million senior citizens, making them demographically significant enough to be a niche market.From classes to understand Facebook better, invest more lucratively in the stock market to training to help write one’s will, options areto be aplenty for post-retirement persons in the expo,organised by not-for-profit organisation Dignity Foundation. The three-day expo will also have stalls to explore second career options for the retired persons, said Dr Sheilu Sreenivasan, founder president of the foundation.There is a separate market for senior citizens in other countries, and this exhibition is such an attempt to focus entirely on this segment and their needs,” explained Radhakrishnan, president,Chennai Chapter.As brand ambassador to the expo, dancer Dhananjayan said efforts should also be made to harness the experience of senior citizens in their areas of expertise.The exhibitions to be held in Bangalore, Pune, Mumbai and Hyderabad after Chennai, will feature stalls by banking, insurance and companies, among others, to explore options available exclusively to senior citizens in their respective areas.Raman, MD, Vision India said, more than 5000 visitors are expected to participate in the expo to be held between September 10 and 12 at Chennai Trade Centre. Suresh Bhagwat and T Ranganathan, of Athashri, which is partnering in the event where present at the press conference on Wednesday.
