CHENNAI: A writ plea has been made in the Madras High Court to take action on a complaint against the management of VHS hospital in Adyar. Justice S Rajeswaran, before whom the writ petition from Dr CS Rex Sargunam, president of the TN Health Development Association, Porur, came up for hearing today, admitted it and ordered notice returnable by March 16. The petitioner said the hospital was founded by late Dr KS Sanjeevi to give free and charitable medical services to the poor, needy, distressed and disabled. The State allotted 20 acres for establishing the hospital and also sanctioned `60 lakh every year and it turned out to be a quasi-government hospital. However, after the death of Dr NS Murali in 2009, the character and nature of medical services at the VHS changed with the assumption of offices of the management by the incumbents, petitioner contended.Alleging that they had converted the hospital into a commercial one, he sent a representation to the State health department on January 9 this year for necessary action. As there was no action, the present petition.
