BHUBANESWAR: In a fresh attempt to promote khadi industry in the State, Chief Secretary Bijay Kumar Patnaik on Tuesday directed the Khadi and Village Industries Board (KVIB) to expedite the construction of khadi and handicraft mall on its premises here.It was decided that the mall will be constructed in partnership between IDCO and the board. IDCO has been advised to engage a professional architect to design the building. The board has been asked to plan out the details of utilisation of different floors in the proposed mall.Handicrafts along with handloom and khadi products will be kept in the mall for exhibition and sale.The Chief Secretary has advised IDCO to make optimum use of the land and leave open space for parking and other activities. The board, as the anchor operator of the mall, will provide shops to credible societies and enterprises operating in the sector after due scrutiny. Principal Secretary, Industries Department, T Ramchandru along with KVIB Secretary Damodar Jena and senior officials attended.
