New Delhi: Union Power Minister Piyush Goyal has issued a stern warning to officials in Uttar Pradesh and asked them to either ensure zero corruption or resign immediately.

In a video posted by news agency ANI on YouTube, Goyal says, “Change your habits… change your expenses… I am saying this for the linemen, inspectors, quality checkers and contractors… anyone who has problem with the new system should just resign and get out.”

According to sources, Goyal conducted a surprise visits at Power Finance Corporation office in Uttar Pradesh.

“This message should reach to all juniors and seniors in the electricity department that if a single person is caught accepting bribe of even a rupee, he will face severest action. We will use every legal provision to punish such a person,” said Goyal.

“If someone has a connection with contractors or relationship with them… because of olden days, such things should stop immediately,” he added.

This is not the first time a minister has been seen threatening government employees with action in case of corruption. However, in August 2012, former Uttar Pradesh PWD minister of Shivpal Singh Yadav was caught on wrong side of things advising officials to “steal a little” but not to “indulge in robbery.”

“I always tell PWD contractors to work hard. If you work hard, you will be allowed to steal a little. But you will not be allowed to rob like dacoits,” Yadav told officials.

After the video went viral, Yadav said, “His core message was to work hard and focus on quality”.
