CHENNAI: Taps in Royapuram, Old and New Washermanpet and Tondiarpet will go dry on Friday and Saturday (February 24 and 25) in view of development works undertaken at the Mint junction. Forewarning the disruption of piped water supply, a Metrowater communique has stated that people living in the areas would have to store water in the coming days to meet their demands as the weekend eve would witness an interruption in water supply.Giving details, the release said supply of piped water to the areas coming under Corporation Divisions 42,43, 47 & 48 in Area-IV, Divisions 49, 50,51,52,53 & 54 in Area V and Divisions 73 and 77 in Area VI would suffer due to the work.The Metrowater statement said that in view of the proposed construction of Mint Road Overbridge at Mint junction near the Mint Bus Terminus, the existing water main has been shifted away from the bridge alignment.The department now requires to connect the existing main at Basin Bridge Road western end (at Mint Street junction) and Basin Bridge Road eastern end (near Mint Bus Terminus) and hence the stoppage of supply.
