THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Even as the latest round of standoff between Kerala Congress leader R Balakrishna Pillai and his Minister son K B Ganesh Kumar has driven the Oommen Chandy Government to a piquant situation, the matter is likely to fizzle out in the same vein, as a patch up formula is being charted out, it is reliably learnt. The Nair Service Society, with which both the father and son has an allegiance and commitment beyond description, has issued a diktat that the standoff should not be precipitated. “Matters related to the party and the feelings of party workers are something which could be understood only by one who is running it. Keeping away from party meets consistently even when remaining as a nominee in the ministry could pose issues as is being evident now. Genuine demands should be taken care of by both sides,” a top NSS leader said. “It will be settled soon,” asserted G Sukumaran Nair, NSS general secretary, who had spoken to the duo and KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala. “The issue will be solved through negotiations. It will not remain as a problem,” affirmed Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, when contacted by Express. “All the demands made by Balakrishna Pillai such as an intervening role on crucial matters and appointments related to ministries handled by his son could not be acceded,” commented a key leader of KPCC. “Pillai is one person who had benefited most through the present UDF Government and creating problems now and then is not proper,” said another leader, who was closely aligned with Pillai till recently. It is understood that Ganesh Kumar has found more support in the government and the UDF in the emerging scenario. Ganesh Kumar is said to be complaining that he is being put under tremendous pressure by his father to toe a line only drawn by the latter whereas Pillai is furious that his son is behaving as if he is the sole master of a fiefdom. While party workers and even ministers are being fed up with Pillai’s tirade against his son, Ganesh has even thrown a challenge that he does not want the support of KC(B) or his father to win an election from the Pathanapuram constituency. “Both of them should be realistic in their stand. As minister, Ganesh should show more maturity,” said G Sukumaran Nair. The father and son, under any given situation, cannot neglect the words of the NSS leadership.
