Madras University proposed to start new PG courses named after state leaders.

Chennai: The 150 year-old Madras University proposed to start new PG courses named after rational leaders of the state, Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, DMK founder C N Annadurai and late E V R Periyar, founder of Dravidar Kazhagam and a doyen of the rational movement.

"New MA programmes in Periyar Thought, Anna Thought and Kalaignar Thought will be introduced soon and we will take steps to create Centres (named after these leaders) also by next academic year," newly-appointed Vice Chancellor of the Madras University, G Thiruvasagam, said.

He said the concurrence of the Academic Council and Senate was required for introduction of these courses and the content will be decided then.

"It will be available both in English and Tamil medium and also in the Distance Education mode," he added.
