BANGALORE: Petrol bunks in the city witnessed an unprecedented rush as thousands of Bangaloreans made a serpentine queue to fill the tanks of their vehicles before the revised petrol rates came into effect from midnight on Wednesday. “I might as well tank up at lower rates, at least the price hike will not affect me for the next week,” said a very agitated Prashanth, a youth waiting at a petrol bunk. Questioning the steep hike in petrol price at once, he said, “It wouldn’t have made much difference if they hike it in parts, but a one go hike of `7.50 is too much in my opinion,” he said. A large number of vehicle owners were seen patiently waiting for their turn in queues for close to 40 minutes while others were frustrated with the wait and pulled out of line in the evening. “Paying extra tomorrow is better than wasting more time. This is just irritating,” said Kaushik, a man at a petrol bunk on Old Airport Road where more than 20 cars were seen waiting in line on the main road.“I don’t know how long the stocks will last at this rate. People are just rushing in to get their tanks filled before the rates are hiked. A majority of the customers today are going in for full tanks,” said Harish, a petrol bunk attendant at Domlur. With prices set to hit `81.75 paise per litre from Thursday, the initial shock and anger amongst the public in Bangalore quickly translated into a last ditch attempt to postpone the effect of the hike for as long as possible.
