KOCHI: With Christmas round the corner and shopping season gathering momentum, the city police have taken measures to ensure a smooth Christmas this time. Night patrolling and shadow police operations will be intensified in the coming days to prevent any untoward incidents.According to Deputy Police Commissioner T Gopalakrishna Pillai, the police have intensified checking in busy areas like Broadway and M G Road. “We have deputed a posse of police ever since night shopping began. Surveillance cameras fixed in 34 places will be used to monitor traffic in the city and traffic violators will be traced and booked immediately. Additional night patrolling will also be carried out. More policemen have been deputed in the Traffic Department to ensure smooth traffic flow,” Pillai said. In the lines of the system followed during Onam, the Shadow Police, including women cops, will be deployed at busy areas to keep law and order. “Policemen will be deployed at bus stands, railway stations and shopping areas like MG road, Broadway and Kadavanthara,” T Gopalakrishnan said. “The control room operations will be intensified and quick action team will be deployed in case of any untoward incidents,” Assistant Commissioner K S Vijayappan said.
