Patna: Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Patna Range in Bihar on Thursday ordered to stop salaries of 70 Station House officers and ten Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) for lower number of arrests in their respective areas.
DIG Rajesh Kumar wants at least one accused be arrested on daily basis by every police station. Justifying the action, he told News18 that it was necessary to stop criminal cases and increase the pace of investigation related to criminal offences.
“What kind of policing is this? I found not a single arrest was made in the last one week. I have warned them. I can ease the order if substantial numbers of arrests are made in the next one week,” he said.
DIG feels even DSPs should come forward and ensure arrests are made on a daily basis.
“A DSP controls a large area and they should be proactive in making arrests themselves. At least one per week,” Rajesh Kumar said.
The Nitish Kumar government has come under attack from opposition for not able to curb rising crime graph. Leader of opposition Tejashwi Yadav has attacked the government saying the Nitish government has failed on law and order front as many traders were shot dead in the last fortnight.
His party Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) also raised the issue in the Assembly. Recurring cases of loot and murder in the capital city of Patna have become a cause of concern and the latest move to stop salaries is understood to be a desperate attempt by higher officials to arrest the slide in the situation.
