BANGALORE: The presidential elections to the Kannada Sahitya Parishat (KSP), which was held on Sunday, witnessed a voter turnout of 62.40 per cent — a three per cent increase from the previous election. Prof Chandrashekar Pail (Champa) and Pundalik Alambi are said to be the front-runners for the presidential post.T Thimmesh has been elected as president for Bangalore (Urban), while Hulikal Nataraj is the new Bangalore (Rural) president. Bangalore (Rural) saw a voter turnout of 65.47 per cent, while the city’s urban landscape had a turnout of only 35.58 per cent. This comes as a surprise, as Bangalore Urban continues to top the state with 15,744 members, followed by Mandya and Hassan districts. Established in 1915, the premier literary body established to promote Kannada has as many as 1,08,028 members. The race for the post of president is likely to go down to the wire between Champa and Alambi, who were in the fray among ten other candidates, including the likes of former secretary Jaragnahalli Shivashankar, film actor Ashoka and others. The results for the president elections will be announced on May 2.
