BANGALORE: Undeterred by a deformed left arm, city boy Sharath Gayakwad, who had taken part in the 200 meters individual medley, 500 meters butterfly stroke, and 50 meters free style, has won one silver and two bronze medals.The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) had provided financial assistance of Rs 1.7 lakhs to Sharath, to participate in the International German Championship, who is now qualified for the 2012 Paralympics to be held in London, United Kingdom.Accompanied by fellow swimmer, Niranjan Mukundan, Sharath thanked Urban Affairs Minister S Suresh Kumar.Mukundan said that since the Paralymics body had been derecognised, they wanted to generate funds to participate in the event. Mukundan suffers from Spina Bifida, but is a member of the Water Polo Team of the state.Former mayor's assistanceFormer mayor S K Natraj and Girinagar councilor H S Lalitha had contributed Rs 1.7 lakhs to help them participate in the event.Sharath Gayakwad is a BA student in a college in the city while Mukundan is a second PUC student.
