THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A parallel sewage system will be built to prevent flash floods and waterlogging at Thampanoor and Pazhavangady employing the latest trenchless technology, said Health Minister V S Sivakumar. The Minister, in a statement here, said that the Rs 18-crore project would be implemented by the KSUDP using JNNURM fund. The project is to build a concrete box drain from near the KSRTC central bus station which will cut across the Pazhavangady canal, to pass through Over Bridge, SL Theatre Road and Uppilammoodu bridge to end in front of the Old Collectorate building. The block where the Pattam canal joins with the Pazhavangady canal will also be cleared to facilitate free flow of water to the Amayizhanjan canal. This will also help to prevent floods in the Thekkummoodu and Plamoodu areas. Tender has been floated to build the side wall of the Pazhavangady canal from Observatory Hills to Kannammoola bridge. The project will be implemented with ADB fund through the KSUDP, the Minister said.
