Jammu: Two more terrorists were killed by the security forces in a fierce gun battle in Jammu and Kashmir's Pampore encounter, which ended on Monday evening.
The security forces managed to corner the terrorists in the machine room of the Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI) building and rained bullets to eliminate the perpetrators. The terrorists were holed up inside the building on Saturday.
As per the latest report the encounter ended around 5 pm and the joint forces are now engaged in sanitizing the Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI) complex, where the terrorists were holed up.
It is yet to be clear the exact numbers of perpetrators engaged in the Pampore terror attack.
Major General Arvind Dutta, GoC, Victor Force said, "The gun battle is over. Lot of arms and war-like ammunition has been recovered. They were foreign terrorists and were heavily armed."
He said, "It was a pre-planned attack as they tried to provoke the security forces to fire by attacking the BSF bus. Their strategy was to instigate jawans to fire only to ensure maximum civilian causalities because the area is heavily populated by the local people."
"There were many civilians inside the building at the time of attack. Our main focus was to evacuate them to safety. We launched a joint operation and used bullet-proof vehicles to evacuate 120 civilians from the building. There were a lot of rooms in the building and hence the operation took time," he added.
Two officers of the rank of captain and a Lance Naik from the elite Para force of the Army were killed while trying to flush out the militants. Two CRPF jawans and one civilian were also killed in the terror attack.
While Captain Pawan Kumar of 10 Para Regiment was killed in a pre-dawn exchange of fire on Sunday, Captain Tushar Mahajan and Lance Naik Om Prakash were martyred in the evening while giving befitting replying to the terrorists.
Army sources said three terrorists were neutralised in the Pampore operation and a large amount of arms and ammunitions were seized from the terrorists.
Earlier in the day, Army claimed that flush out operation may take time as they are taking utmost precaution to ensure that there are no more casualties.
The encounter began on Saturday after terrorists attacked a CRPF bus in Pampore and killed two jawans and injuring 11, before hiding inside the EDI building.
A hostage situation was averted because at the time of attack at least 80 people were inside the EDI building. All of them were evacuated safely by security forces from various sides of the complex.
