New Delhi: Visiting Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas is expected to seek India's support for his move to secure "non member" status in the United Nation.
Palestine is presently an observer in the United Nations. Abbas may also seek India's good offices to persuade Israel to amend the Paris Protocols and re-work his state's economic relationship with Israel.
This is his fourth visit to India and the second state Visit. He is accompanied by a delegation comprising senior Ministers, including Saeb MS Erakat, PLO Executive Committee Member, and Nabil GO Aburudainah, the President's Advisor.
The visit includes meeting with President Pranab Mukherjee, delegation-level talks with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, and meetings with Vice President Hamid Ansari and External Affairs Minister SM Krishna.
During the present visit, both sides will sign MoUs for cooperation in ICT, vocational training and constructing schools in Palestine.
Palestine has been swept by an unprecedented crisis driven by the rising cost of living and petrol prices. Thousands have taken to the streets against Abbas government and demanded the resignation of his Prime Minister.
