Pakistan's National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) on Thursday claimed that Lashkar-e-Toiba terrorist Mohd Naved alias Usman Khan, who was arrested by Indian security forces in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, is not a citizen of the country.
Pakistani news website Dunya News reported NADRA officials as saying that Usman Khan is not a Pakistani citizen according to their records. The officials also added that the images of the man arrested by India do not match any Pakistani citizen.
Indian security forces registered a major success on Wednesday in Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur when they captured Usman Khan. He is a resident of Faisalabad in Pakistan and intelligence sources say he infiltrated into India along with at least four other LeT terrorists.
After entering India, the group split into two. While three terrorists attacked Dinanagar in Gurdaspur district of Punjab, the other two including Usman were waiting to strike at another location.
On Wednesday morning, Usman and the other terrorists ambushed a Border Security Force (BSF) convoy in Narsoo in Udhampur, killing two soldiers and injuring eight others. In the ensuing gunbattle, BSF troopers killed one terrorist while Usman fled into the dense forests after taking three people hostage.
Usman was surrounded by a team of BSF and Army soldiers. He was overpowered by the people he had taken hostage and handed over to the security forces.
NADRA was tasked with ensuring civil registration of all Pakistanis in March 2000 to issue secure Computerized National Identity Cards (CNIC).
