BANGALORE: Queen’s Road, starting from Minsk Square towards Mahatma Gandhi Statue has become an accident zone. In just two days, nearly 20 minor and two major accidents have been reported on this road. Police here, claim that the uncovered, unbarricaded potholes are causing the trouble, while commuters, unaware of the on-going construction work on the narrow road often have ended up in the ditch.Further, hospitals in the vicinity complain that many ambulances have been stuck for over 45 minutes on this road in the last two days. “An 108 ambulance carrying a patient was stuck on this road for over 40 minutes on Wednesday. Finally, when the traffic cleared, the ambulance couldn’t get away as there was a jeep’s wheel stuck inside the pothole,” said Sandeep, a biker.Following the incidents, Cubbon Park police are trying to talk to authorities to get at least boards on ‘construction in progress’ installed on this road. “This is a narrow road, and there is traffic congestion on this road always. Now, traffic piles up from Minsk Square and goes up to MG Road. There is no alternative because all the other roads have on-going construction works. Every day, I wait for at least 35 minutes in the traffic congestion,” said Sharadha Sharma, a biker.BBMP authorities said that they were looking at fixing the road soon. However, they had no answer when questioned about the lack of sign boards.
