Packaged water: Order reserved
Packaged water: Order reserved

The High Court on Tuesday reserved orders on a public interest petition filed seeking directions to Deputy Commissioners of all districts in the state to stop the sale of packaged drinking water where the packaging units do not have certification from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).

During the hearing, amicus curiae Aditya Sondhi   submitted the present status of the packed drinking water as there are many illegal companies which are selling water without obtaining license from the authorities concerned.

Counsel for the petitioners sought directions to all the packaged drinking water companies to take certification from the Central government mandatorily and these companies have to be monitored by state health authorities and direction to the  compliance of the provisions of the Bureau of Indian Standard Act, 1986 (BIS Act) and the Prevention of Food Adulteration (7th Amendment) Rules, 2000.  ENS
