New Delhi: The Supreme Court has now ruled that schools do not have to get their admission criteria approved by the Department of Education (DoE), as the Delhi High Court had ordered earlier.
However, the apex court said that the schools will not be permitted to interview parents but only an interaction will be allowed.
It said this guideline will mean interaction with parents and guardians. In a sense, it means that the interaction will not be limited and would have more scope.
A Bench headed by Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan also said the schools can have their separate time schedule for starting the admission process but have to complete as per the regulations.
It also said the time schedule has to be informed to the Directorate of Education within a week and has to be published on the websites of the respective schools.
The court has directed the schools to finish their admissions by March 15.
Meanwhile, schools in Delhi are due to open pre-primary registrations on Saturday.
