The National Service Scheme (NSS) Foundation Day lecture was organized by the NSS Cell at the School of Humanities Auditorium, University of Hyderabad (UoH). Dr. Vithal Rajan and Jayanthi Sunder Rajan delivered the lecture.
Dr. Vithal Rajan, an eminent writer and well known activist in the NGO sector in India spoke on “The University, Higher Education and Community Building”. He said, “Education should reach to all people which will help in developing their personality.” He is also the founder volunteer chair of the Deccan Development Society, which promotes integrated rural development in the semi-arid poverty-stricken Deccan plateau, literacy and community health programs, and ecological agriculture.
While, Jayanthi Sunder Rajan, psychologist, Roshini Counselling Centre, Hyderabad spoke on Stress Management. Interacting with the students, Ms. Jayanthi said, “There are many myths and facts about stress. Negative events cause stress, major events are stressful and these come under Myth’s. Positive events are also stressful; symptom’s of which require treatment and these come under Fact’s.” She stressed on why stress differs among different people and said that job performance, job insecurity, family, work place culture and ill-health are the sources of stress among different people.
Prof. Ramakrishna Ramaswamy, Vice-Chancellor, UoH inaugurated the NSS website and appreciated the role played by NSS volunteers. He asked students to join NSS and spread the message of national service. He lauded the efforts of the NSS cell and students for their active participation in the Blood Donation Camp.
