Chandigarh: Hailing the Cow Protection Bill passed unanimously by the Haryana assembly, Governor Kaptan Singh Solanki on Saturday said that no other service is as great as 'gau sewa.'

He said by passing the bill, Haryana has carved for itself a separate identity among the states in the country.

"Everybody should inculcate in them the feeling of 'gau sewa'. This would enrich further the rich culture of India," he said speaking at the centenary celebrations of Shri Gaushala at Safidon in Jind district.

That the 'Gau Sanrakshan Avm Gau Samwardhan' (Cow Protection and Cow Conservation and Development) Bill was passed unanimously by all parties bears testimony to the sentiments of the legislators, the Governor said.

With a view to promoting the cow, the state government is providing motivational grant for the rearing of local and Sahiwal breed of cows, he said.

On March 16, Haryana Assembly had passed a 'Gauvansh Sanrakshan and Gausamvardhan' Bill which clamps a complete ban on cow slaughter in the state and provides for a rigorous imprisonment ranging from three years to ten years for killing the animal.
