PUDUCHERRY: Four Netherlands students were rescued by police on Thursday after an NGO member threatened to prevent them from leaving their home unless they paid more money for their stay. Zeynep Akyuz, one of the four students told Express that she, along with Esther Dirix, Lisbeth Pinckaers and Joyce Van de Meulen from Zuyd University, Netherlands, had arrived in Puducherry in February to do research as part of their Bachelor of Social Work degree after the university made an arrangement with the NGO, Sojahur-India (Society for Social Justice and Human Resource Development), for their stay and project work, which the NGO claims to specialise in. The NGO, however, failed to keep its side of the bargain and has been harassing the students for money, it has been alleged. One of its staff has been accused of seeking sexual favours too, the police complaint says.
