CHENNAI: Her stint as the Chairperson of the Social Welfare Board brought poet Salma into contact with several hapless women. After resigning from her post last year, Salma devoted her time helping women with legal and family problems and that gave birth to the NGO and the counselling centre — Your Hope is Remaining. She says, “The thought that struck me was that if I attempted the same things I was doing as part of an organisation rather than as an individual, the results would be better.” The counselling and legal advice centre was inaugurated on March 17 at Eldam’s Road. Salma says, “Counsellors with training from Madras School of Social Work will help us with the counselling. We also plan to begin outreach and awareness programmes.”The centre is open from 10 am to 6 pm every day. For further details and assistance, Salma can be contacted on 9444918604.
