HYDERABAD: The new director-general of police V Dinesh Reddy said regionalism was becoming a problem in the state, joining other ‘isms’ like extremism, communalism and factionism.Addressing a press conference after taking charge, Reddy said, ‘’Regionalism is a problem but we will tackle the issue. We will cross the bridge when it comes.’’ Describing policing as a noble profession second only to medicine, the new state police chief said he would provide a definite direction to his force."I assure people of the entire state that protecting their lives and property will be my aim,’’ he said.With regard to the affairs of the Satya Sai Central Trust, he said there was a need to go deeper into the matter.Asked whether he will select his own team of officers, he said; ‘’I will see whether the present team is performing or not and then decide.’’ Recalling his days as Hyderabad police commissioner, he said, ‘’There was not a single bomb blast, no communal clashes, no curfew and there was total peace during my stint.’’ Nellore native Dinesh Reddy is a Nellore native who started his career as ASP in Rajahmundry. He was SP of several districts including Krishna, Khammam, East Godavari and Vijayawada Urban. He worked as DCP East Zone in Hyderabad and as SP, CID. As DIG, he worked in intelligence, Warangal and Hyderabad ranges.As IGP, he worked in legal metrology, prohibition and excise, drugs and copyright, and Hyderabad city coordination.He also worked as additional DGP, railways, law and order, Hyderabad Police Commissioner, managing director of APSRTC.
