KOCHI: Following the death of P G Haridath, the investigation officer of the Sampath murder case, the CBI is likely to form a new investigation team to probe the controversial custodial killing. It is learnt that the CBI top brass will convene a meeting next week to choose an officer to head the investigation team. According to CBI officials, the proposal to constitute a new team has been submitted to the higher officials, but they are yet to receive an order in this regard. “After the death of P G Haridath, the Additional Superintendent of Police, we have decided to constitute a new team. The chargesheet of the case will be reviewed,” a top CBI official said.The CBI officials who were named in the suicide note of Haridath would be excluded from the new team. “An internal inquiry would also be conducted. The police will also quiz the persons and if anyone is found guilty, strict action would be initiated against him,” the officials said. Meanwhile, the police team under Aluva DySP recorded the statements of the relatives of Haridath, on Sunday. “We have taken the statements from ten persons who were close to Haridath. Most of them are his relatives. After taking the statement from his wife, we will quiz the CBI officials who were named in the suicide note,” Salim, DySP Aluva, said.
